Pre and post natal support and guidance
Prenatal check ups
At prenatal appointments, which are typically an hour to 1-1.5 hours long, we discuss all aspects of your wellbeing, including all the nutritional, mental, physical, emotional and spiritual aspects involved in birth. This is a big time in a woman's life and indeed, in a family's life as a whole.
At each prenatal visit we cover all of the medical checks that you would receive with any obstetric caregiver. During each visit we check your blood pressure, urine, and take your pulse. We also palpate your belly to determine your baby's position and listen to the fetal heart. Your belly will also be measured regularly to check your baby's progressive growth. We discuss your concerns and answer any questions you might have.
Appointments take place at our consulting rooms in Far Hills for the majority or your pregnancy, and a homevisit prenatal is conducted around 36-37 weeks to orient the midwives so that we can get to you in a hurry when baby comes.
At post natal appointments, which are typically around 2 - 2.5 hours, (so much to talk about!) all medical checks are performed on both mother and baby.
For the mother this includes: taking your blood pressure, pulse, temperature, checking your uterus and monitoring post partum bleeding, breastcare, and, most importantly, self care. For the newborn our visit includes checking their heartrate and respirations, taking their temperature, umbilical cord care, help with breastfeeding and latching, as well as newborn weighing.
Usually on day 3 or 5 postbirth we also help mom with baby's first bath and massage which is a great photo opportunity!
When a woman gets to know her midwives during pregnancy, the team often become friends, a bond of understanding develops and the emotional support the midwives give can help the mother feel prepared for birth, confident and strong.
The midwives of Eden Natural Birth strongly believe in establishing a good relationship with the mother-to-be and her family prior to her giving birth. This way an understanding of each woman's unique situation and birthing hopes and wishes can be established, facilitating a smooth and enjoyable process for all involved!
In order to establish a good foundation of care we offer a full pre and post natal service which provides our clients with compassionate support and guidance throughout this life-changing and empowering experience.
We have established a comprehensive labour and birth preparation workshop for expectant couples which is run on a regular basis and covers a wide range of birth related topics from cord cutting right through to breastfeeding.

To see love made flesh is to witness a miracle
Having a baby is one of the most important passages in your life. You feel the child develop and move inside you; to labour you surf the contractions that are like tidal waves sweeping through your body; as you push the baby down, you know the intensity of the birth passion, and then reach out with eager hands to welcome your baby and cradle this new life in your arms.
To see love made flesh is to witness a miracle.
